msttf causes firefox to crash

I had firefox and msttf installed. I would encounter randomish crashes. What tipped me off to msttf: in the strace I ran, the last thing before the segfault was an open of arial.ttf I removed msttf, firefox's font's were ugly, but no crashes at all. Asked on irc, wasn't able to reproduce. I know p3pilot had other issues with arial fonts and gtk apps. I only had issues with firefox. xchat and thunderbird worked fine. A good set of alternatives are: freefont-ttf unfonts-ttf dejavu-ttf essays1743-ttf isabella-ttf ttf-bitstream-vera ttf-arkpandora
The bug is much more than firefox. For me any gtk app (never really tested with qt apps) that was using the arial font from msttf immediately crashed on launch. What I am not sure is how we fix it other than pulling the spell. Seems it is something new with the latest gtk update since I had been using msttf and arial for a long long time with no issues.
I also had problems with crashy FireFox. After removing msttf it didn't crash anymore. After that i installed webcore-fonts and the fonts in firefox font's are more or less normal...
Someone with this problems could test if new fontconfig or new freetype2 don't fix this.
I already tested that yesterday. I still got the crash. Not that fast but in one hour the crash was there.
